First, let’s analyse this engine a little. Three-cylinder 1.0 L TSI with 82 to 115 horsepower. This engine exists in configuration with a 5-speed manual or 7-speed automatic transmission.

We are going to take a closer look at the model with manual transmission. The vehicle reaches 70 kW/95 hp with 5000 to 5,500 revolutions with a torque of 160 Nm, available from 1,500 to 35,000 RPM. This car has a down-the-line three-cylinder engine equipped with GDI system, indirect cooling and turbocharger. Due to its emissions of 102–97 g/km, the car is within the Euro 6 norm.

Its engine utilises TFSI technology (Turbocharger Fuel Stratified Injection)

The Volkswagen Group engine technology refers to TSI or “turbocharged straight injection”.

TFSI engines offer high torque performance. While it was previously typical for turbocharged engines to have the qualities of over-filled engines, TFSI technology uses a single form of acceleration with almost no delay. Torque timing is highly advanced, which is typical of diesel engines, and is even reached at higher revolutions, which is typical of petrol engines. This system allows low capacity engines to have high performance as well as torque.

TFSI engines were launched into production in 2004 and have received many awards, including the “engine of the year” award. There is no other engine with such power in this category. Besides which, the small capacity and high torque ensure low fuel economy even with a dynamic driving style. If you change gears correctly, then with this engine your fuel economy stays low, even when driving fast.

TFSI engines optimise fuel economy to the current driving mode. The lighter the foot on the pedal, the lower the fuel economy has the car.
